Local Brand Windwix Candles

My whole life I have been extremely sensitive to fragrances and perfumes. Fireworks, Bath & Body Works gifts, & candles would give me an asthma attack in a skinny minute. I always hated that I couldn’t indulge in little luxuries. As I get older, I have quite the appreciation for the finer things and higher quality products. Life certainly is not slowing down any time soon, so it is great for my mental health to light a candle and use aromatherapy to meditate and relax. Therefore, I am thrilled to share a favorite local brand, Windwix Candles, with you.

Beauty Behind the Brand

Hilary Jean is a Greenville, SC local artisan who creates beautifully scented candles with the cleanest burning and hypoallergenic coconut wax. She started the candle brand out of her home during difficult times in her life. Let’s be real: I am all about a babe that knows how to make lemonade out of lemons. Her care for every detail has helped make this brand an absolute gem.My yogi friends would say that out of the mud a lotus is born; Hilary and her brand are just that. Did I mention I met her through my yoga studio?

The Healthiest Wax

Coconut wax is made of naturally from coconut meat. It is allergen friendly and responsibly sourced. Coconut wax burns at a low temperature that allows longer and cleaner burn. Because coconut wax ranges from 6 to 10 carbon lengths, it attaches to fragrance well.

There are many reasons coconut wax is best. Parrafin wax produces toluene as a by-product, as it is petroleum derived. Palm wax is dangerously sourced. The majority of palm originates from Malaysia and Indonesia where palm farmers non-consequently burn and commandeer ancient forests by thousands of acres a day. Some palm plantations developed this way even have the RSPO (responsibly sourced palm origin) certification through grandfathering or being purchased after the damage is done. Therefore, it’s best to steer clear of palm wax.

Non-GMO soy wax is non-existent. In addition, soy contains heavy pesticide and fertilizer additives. Neither soy nor beeswax hold scent well. In addition, honey bee populations are threatened by commercial pesticides and mosquito sprays. Coconut wax is the obvious choice, which is why it was Hilary’s choice.

Attention to Detail

Hilary also uses natural cotton wicks and phthalate-free essential oils. Windwix candles are affordable and handmade! Smaller sizes are available for $6. These would make a thoughtful teacher Christmas gifts. Her packaging gets more aesthetic as the brand grows. Finally, she has FIVE stars on Etsy.

Better Than The Offsets

The Windwix Candles “Almost Paradise” candle is an offset and improvement to the popular big-store brand, Capri Volcano. I am literally obsessed with the smell, guys. If you are having a hard time choosing a scent, just do yourself a favor and add this one to your cart.

Windwix Candles offers an offset to the popular Dyptique candle, Baises, called Blackcurrant & Rose. In addition to being easier on the nose, the WindWix candles smoked cleaner than the pricey ($62 a candle) Dyptique candle. Check out how little the Windwix candle smoked in the photo below!

Hilary also makes other products including a line for your favorite fur baby. Named from her own furry loves, “2 Boxers in a Tub” included paw wax that protects littles’ paws from rough ground. We have switched to the more natural dog shampoo and are already almost out. The products you find in pet store chains are full of foamers and other irritating additives. The WindWix line also includes natural, essential oil based oils. “Stress away” is a lavender based oil that induces relaxation. I keep it by my nightstand and rub it on my hands before bed to moisturize my hands and inhale tiny particles of lavender to settle my mind for bed. Shop more body products HERE.

The “Caramel & Tobacco” candle makes for a beautiful gift (let’s be real, you’re going to need to grab one for yourself) for fall through winter. It gives Christmas and woodsy vibes. It is my husband’s favorite as well!
