Happy Monday loves! If you follow my blog or instagram you probably know I suffer from eczema. Daily moisture with creams is the most effective way to heal the top layer of our skin to prevent environmental allergens from entering the skin. I received a complimentary product, the Lipikar Eczema Cream, from La Roche-Posay USA recently. Follow along to read my review. I take eczema and its’ symptoms very seriously, so of course all my experience, reviews, and opinions are 100% my own.
Creams are essential for eczema. Lotions moisturize like creams, but creams provide a seal to seal in the added moisture. Creams have more oil components that provide a barrier to hold water in at your skin. That extra layer of protection also helps protect our body and skin from allergens. When allergens enter the skin, the body sends antibodies there to attack and kill what the body thinks is a foreign invader and life threat. Unfortunately this causes inflammation at the skin level, resulting in eczema.
La Roche-Posay USA Lipikar Eczema Cream
The La Roche-Posay USA Lipikar Eczema Cream is unique product. I had never before come across or tested this product. It is accepted by the National Eczema Associatio, and retails for $14.99. It is free of parabens, fragrances, and steroids. In addition, it is non-comedogenic, and allergy-tested. the Lipikar Eczema cream contains antioxidants and Vitamins B, C, and E. Further, it contains colloidal oatmeal which is proven to soothe itching and creates a sealant.
It does contain shea butter, to which some people react. Luckily I do not react to shea butter so this product was great for me. The La Roche-Posay USA Lipikar Eczema Cream has a slight oatmeal, cream smell.
The Lipikar Eczema cream was very smooth and did not feel greasy or oily at all. Although it does not feel oily, it has a very thick consistency similar to a light sunscreen. It applies white and requires rubbing to spread thin. As an eczema sufferer, it is important to spread creams thinly across skin so the skin can also breathe naturally. Overly thick creams may result in further irritation.
This cream is not greasy, but does make my skin very smooth as if I put a makeup primer all over my body. As a result, the product is very soft and seems to provide a consistent, effective barrier. In comparison, this product is less oily than Gold Bond’s similar eczema cream.
I would think that if one’s skin was not clean and free of environmental allergens, adding this lotion could trap in those chemicals he or she is trying to itch out. Most eczema sufferers are aware of this. As a result, I think this would be a perfect post-shower sealant. Finally, I would highly recommend this product. The only drawback is I have not seen this product in my local CVS store, but a quick Google search showed that CVS, Walgreens, and Ulta carry the product. CLICK HERE to order online.
If you suffer from Eczema or just need a strong body lotion, go grab a bottle of this simple yet effective product! Finally, keep an eye out in the near future for a post about how I minimize eczema flares and breakouts at home.
