Indi’s Favorite Toys 0-4 Months

Let’s be real, the first 2 months of a baby’s life is pretty simple: eat, sleep, repeat. Most stimulation came from me singing, motherese (baby-talk from a mother), funny faces, smiling, and trying anything to get her attention and focus.

Visual Stimulation

Once your baby smiles at around 2 months, you will notice that their world expands infinitely and FAST. The first things I noticed my baby enjoying were visual stimuli. She would track the fruit on the Youtube Baby Sensory Channel “Hey Bear” Smoothie Mix video. She would track the fruit the entire 20 minute video. It was fun to see her amused, but I want to keep screen time a minimal distraction. I decided it was time to pull out the toys. I started with the colorful mobile and she definitely spent hours staring at that thing. It’s a beautiful and mesmerizing piece that is unisex. I highly recommend it for any baby! It hangs by fishing line that I tied onto THIS shower hook. I hang from the fan and it is easily removable with the hook.

I brought out more colorful toys since those were getting 10x the attention to the more aesthetically pleasing wooden toys (of course!)

Cuddles

Around 2.5 months, my baby seemed as if she was holding things & would vaguely mimic my hugging and kissing on her lovey or Cuddle & Kind doll. At 4 months, when I hand them to her, she opens her mouth wide like she is going to eat them to “give them love!”

Teethers

Babies may teeth long before they actually cut a tooth. I have heard of babies born with their first tooth already there, while others don’t get it until a year old. Indi is slobbering, chewing on her hands, & rubbing her face. All these are signs of teething, so I have introduced several tethers that also squeak, teach grip coordination, are colorful, and fun to look at.

Grip Strengtheners

My baby loves holding things, trying to chew new textures, and playing with toys in her fingers. She especially loves the colorful OBALL shown in the collage above!

Crinkling Toys

At exactly 3 months, my baby became obsessed with all things crinkly. Her favorite is the crinkly soft books and especially this Ariel one.

Keep Them Busy

Keep baby busy with a jumper. A baby can be put into a jumper as soon as they can hold their head up, usually between 3-4 months. I will put Indi in hers about 30 minutes before her usual nap. By the time she gets fussy I know it is time to put her down for nap time.
