Happy Humpday Everyone! I am sure that you have an old white button-up or polo shirt that you have not worn in years, but hang on to either because you know you will need it as soon as you throw it away or it is a true closet staple. The problem with a white polo being a closet staple is that it is, well- kind of boring. We may actually wear it if we had a way to spruce it up or give it some style! Well, I have a few ideas to modernize your boring white button up and bring it into 2017!
THE BROOCH OR PIN: Many designers added detailing to collars on the fashion week runway over the last couple years. Make this look your own by adding matching or mis-match pins to the end of your collar. Here I added old Bando Heart Pins! A vintage look is in style so perhaps you pay your grandmother a visit! If you want to invest in a timeless piece, a Chanel pin is great to add to an old button-up!
ADD A STRUCTURED JACKET: Structured cardigans or blazers can be found fairly easy at J. Crew or your store of choice. A bomber jacket could also serve as a more casual add-on to modernize this look.
ADD A SCARF: There are so many fun ways to tie or use a scarf. This idea also calls for a visit to your elders’ closet! Madewell has a beautiful selection as well. I especially love adding a scarf to my neutral pocketbook.
LAYER A BRALETTE AND DAINTY NECKLACES: I continue my obsession with dainty, layered necklaces. Bralettes are the modern womans’ bra. You can leave your button-up half buttoned or all the way open, depending on the vibe and casualness of your on-the-town destination. This is also a super sexy look!
OTHER IDEAS: You can also dress up your old button-up by pairing it with fun statement earrings (see THIS post), adding a blazer, wearing a fun cami underneath, and finally, by leaving the bottom half unbuttoned and tieing either side in a knot at your tummy!
FUN FACT: This is exactly what I wore in 2012 on my first date with my now-hubby! Along with some sequin jeans and my hair curled. He always tells me the preppy casual look got him that day!
