Happy Memorial Day Everyone! I hope you are enjoying the day and either out on the lake, at the beach, or getting some rest and relaxation by a pool! I am reminiscing on our Belize trip and wanted to share my favorite swimsuit this year and the ultimate jean shorts with you!
Maryasia Swim essentially trademarked the scallop edging for swimwear. Many dupes are available, but this beautiful swimsuit has an new level of quality.
First, I have had my eye on this style suit for years and when Maryasia Swim released it in this olive color, I had to have it!
I bought it for 25% off in the spring Shopbop.com sale. I had to send the bottoms back for a larger size so I bought them directly from Maryasia’s website. Pictured below, I stuck with the XS top and the size M Antibes bottom. For reference, my bust is 31″ and my hips are 37″ – 38,” depending on how much ice cream I’ve consumed in the last week. I debated sending the bottoms back a third time for the L, but the primary difference in sizing is coverage.
The top’s straps are widely cut and nearly touch your arms. I thought it fit weird when I first tried it on, but later noticed how the wider cut arm straps create an illusion of a wider chest, which works perfect for my pear-shaped frame! The Antibes bottom has about half coverage of your bottom. It is the perfect shape for modest, yet flattering coverage.
The Palm Springs Bikini top was $150 and the bottoms $141. The quality difference in regards to the price is immediately apparent. I got sunscreen (I literally used 100+ SPF ha!) several spots on the swimsuit and it washed right off. The suit is extremely flattering and thick! The fabric did not absorb the oily product. Next, the laser-cut scallop edging is perfectly flat and unseamed, but has strong edging. The seam that holds the 2 layers of fabric together is straight and sits just inside the scallop.
I would love to add black, pink, and beige Maryasia sets to my closet eventually. The scallop edging is signature to Maryasia and their styles and colors do not vary much from year to year, so this suit will still be beautiful and stylish in 5+ years.
I have a swimwear obsession (8 suits and counting this summer) and I have to say that this is easily my most flattering suit. I have my eye on this Broadway Bikini Top in black and this Venice Bikini Top in rose, both with matching bottoms.
Next, I want to tell you about these beautiful ONE TEASPOON jean shorts. Also purchased in the spring from Shopbop.com, ONE TEASPOON brand has made a name for themselves by creating short yet wearable denim shorts. The high edging elongates your legs and accentuates your booty. The frayed bottom covers just enough to not look overly hoochie. There is, of course, a time and place for frayed denim shorts, but wandering around Belize was one of those perfect opportunities!
This style is called the bandit and is in the “Blue Buoy” color. I love that they button all the way up so I can easily wear them in the new “rolled down” fashion. Think Sofe shorts from high school gym class or Nike shorts from college, rolled up.
The ONE TEASPOON shorts do run very large. I am typically a size 27 in pants and these are size 25 shorts are still a little big in the hip. Note that I have a large waist to hip ratio, so this may account for the smaller size. It fits perfect at my true hip and I think the slightly larger waist creates an illusion of an even smaller waist.
My brother gifted me this beautiful circular towel for my birthday. You can shop it and similar styles at the bottom of this post. I wore my pink Sam Edelman slides (so fun and comfy) as well as white tortoise sunglasses by Oscar de la Renta. I purchased them for $50 at Saks off Fifth Avenue in Charlotte, NC. If you are ever near a Saks off Fifth, be sure to check out the sunglasses selection that includes Tom Ford, Persol, Ray Ban, and more!
Brad is wearing Prana yoga shorts in Olive also. We did not plan to match, but decided to go with it! He bought me the UE Roll 2 for Christmas and we were thrilled to finally put it to use in Belize. The battery lasts an entire day by the pool, floats, and is completely waterproof!
I am all about some signs and I knew our scuba trip would go great when I ran across this feather directly in my path. Feathers in my path are a sign of God calming me or speaking to me. I snapped a picture and left it lie in its symbolic spot.
Checking out the ocean and waiting on our Belizean Iced Coffee between two palms.
Our schedule got rearranged from inclement weather (read more about that in my SCUBA DIVING post, releasing tomorrow), so we were able to enjoy this extra time by our hotel pool in San Pedro. We were able to grab iced coffee at the Belize Coffee Shop. We walked to the plaza and finally relaxed by the pool until our scuba trip. This giant turtle art was in the center plaza so of course I had Brad grab my picture with it.
