My New Favorite Haircare Line: Kevin Murphy Haircare Review

Happy Humpay! Today I wanted to tell you about my absolute favorite haircare line in the world! I am in love with my recently discovered Kevin Murphy Plumping line, and I wanted to give you a Kevin Murphy Haircare review as some may consider the line an investment. I have tried everything in CVS, Wal-Mart, Target, Sephora, and Ulta, and this line absolutely takes the cake for my lifetime of testing! I prefer it to Moroccan Oil products. I am always in favor of spending a little more money to get exactly what I want and is best for my body than buying cheaper goods that just don’t cut it in the long run.  In my experience I buying a higher quality product- from technology to clothes to skincare- results in better results and actually has a better lifespan.  This haircare line is included; I will explain further below.

I went into Megan Diez salon that carries the Kevin Murphy line on the day before New Year’s Eve 2016. I got a beautiful haircut  and I was amazed at the thickness of my ends and how good my hair smelled. The stylist recommended I buy some color-safe shampoo and conditioner since I got some rose copper highlights added to my natural chestnut colored hair and I was getting to the last of my Kenra bottle so I made the splurge on the shampoo and conditioner.

It was $36 for the Kevin Murphy Plumping Wash Densifying Shampoo for thinning hair and $38 for the Kevin Murphy Plumping Rinse Densifying Conditioner for thinning hair, both of which were so tiny at 8.4 oz. each. I was weary of dropping that kind of dough on shampoo and conditioner, but Whitney assured me that it would last me at least 2 months. I was not so sure about it from the look of the small bottle, but it smelled amazing so I went for it.

Kevin Murphy is a company out of Australia.  They are cruelty free and do not test on animals or furry friends of any kind.

You may not know this, but I actually work as a regulatory specialist and write Globally Harmonized System Safety Data Sheets for a metalworking lubricant, polymer, and cleaning chemical company. I have a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry from the University of South Carolina. When it comes to those ingredients that span 2 lines on your shampoo bottle- I am your girl. This shampoo is sulfate, paraben, and cruelty free.  I always examine and read up on all ingredients I use.

Most shampoos contain intense surfactants or cleaners that strip your hair of oil and dirt. This might seem like what you want it to do, but in reality, this leaves your hair stripped and thin and your scalp naturally reproduces oil at a faster rate. I used to wash my hair every single day- if not twice a day. I would shower before bed and feel my hair was greasy the next morning. My problem was cheap, stripping shampoo.

Another issue with drugstore shampoos is that they contain foamers and surfactants that create that “soapy lather.” These additives literally do nothing for the actual care of your skin and were added in the 80’s because they sold better. Now we have been desensitized to think that a heavy lather equates to cleanliness, which is false. As a result, much of cheap drugstore is additives are just filler and you use or waste more product to obtain that lather.

It only takes a pea to dime size drop and plenty of water with Kevin Murphy’s line. First, I have STILL not emptied either 8.4 oz. shampoo or conditioner bottles- over FOUR months after purchase! Seriously, I have been on the exact same set of haircare this entire year.

The plumping line has amino acids from nettle, bamboo extracts and rice proteins that simulate the keratin structure of the hair, and tripeptides that keep hair strong and growing.  The line contains Oleneic acid reduces damage from DHT that makes hair shrink and fall out. Check out THIS video to hear Kevin Murphy explain it hisself. I lose way less hair in the shower than I did before use.  This line has actuallly corrected everything I did not like about my hair and I am able to cleanly wash my hair only 3-4 times a week, which is still a lot for most women, but is far less than my lifetime average of once or twice a day.

The conditioner is a “Plumping Rinse” that has densifying molecules that fill the pores and holes in your hair for thickness and optimal lush hair. It is perfect for my naturally fine locks and I note a blatant difference in my hair now.

Brad agrees that my hair smells great, and is dense, voluminous, and clean.

Even brands such as Nexxus, Fekkai, Redken, and Paul Mitchell do not treat my hair this well.

Recently, I obtained the DOO.OVER Dry powder finishing hairspray and it separates and holds my curl without weighing my hair down too much. It is another new favorite, but make sure to hold your breathe before you spray it in a small bathroom!

The Kevin Murphy line is available at Megan Diez Salon if you are located in Greenville, SC. The line is only available through your local stockist, found HERE.

Every now and then, I find a product I simply cannot live without and I get so excited to share with you! I hope you will also say goodbye to harmful, stripping products and try Kevin Murphy’s line.
